Surgical Errors in Cleveland May Lead to Nerve Damage and a Medical Malpractice Case
Common Surgical Mistakes that Cause Nerve Damage
Nerves are found throughout the entire body, so any surgical procedure could affect them. Problems arise when medical professionals do not exercise the standard of care required.
During surgery, there are two common ways patients are injured:
- Surgeon’s mistake – The surgeon may inadvertently cut too deep or in the wrong place and sever a nerve. Nerves also may be damaged by an instrument placed against a neural pathway or rubbed against it.
- Anesthesiologist’s mistake – Local, regional, or general anesthesia could cause nerve damage if done incorrectly.
